Klabin Papel e Celulose will build a R$6.8 billion ($3.7 billion) paper making plant in southern Brazil. The plant is slated to go online in 2014.
JBS, the Brazilian meatpacking giant, should invest in 2012 as much as R$1 billion ($550mn). The company seeks organic growth, expanding the company’s plants.
Copersucar, a producer of sugar and ethanol, will invest R$150 million ($82 million) to build an ethanol terminal in the state of São Paulo.
Amil, the health insurance company, will build a R$640 million ($352 million) hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The funding will come from the company’s 2007 IPO as well as its revenue and borrowings. Amil is eyeing a BNDES loan to help fund the purchase of equipment.
AES Eletropaulo informs it will invest R$841 million ($467 million) in 2012, up by 13.8 percent compared with 2011.
AES Brasil Group intends to invest roughly R$5.5 billion ($3.05 billion) in energy distribution and generation through 2016. About R$4.7 billion will be earmarked for distribution and R$814 million for generation.
Brazil’s Energisa announced R$1.6 billion ($890 million) in investments for the 2012-2014 period. Energy generation from renewable sources will be earmarked R$927 million ($515 million). In 2012, the company expects to shell out R$672 million ($373mn), of which R$391 million ($217mn) will be directed to electricity generation.
OSX, a company controlled by the EBX Group of billionaire Eike Batista, received an order by Kingfish do Brasil Navegação S/A for 11 oil transport ships. The order amounts to approximately $730 million. Kingfish services Petrobras, the Brazilian state-controlled company. On February 28, OSX announced a $260 million contract with Sapura Navegação Marítima S/A.
Brasil Foods announced an investment of approximately R$30 million ($17 million) to build a new dairy plant in central Brazil.
Case New Holland announced its intention to spend R$600 million ($347 million) on a plant in Brazil to produce construction equipment. The new plant is slated for a 2014 debut. It will generate 700 direct jobs.
